A diamond takes millions of years to form. Diamonds are extremely hard – there are barely any harder materials on this planet.

Since time immemorial, the sparkle of a diamond has almost magically attracted the eye. The “king of all gemstones” owes its popularity to the values that are directly associated with it: Rarity, history and love.

Anyone who decides to buy a diamond rightly expects a genuine natural wonder.

You can find much more information on this in the “Basic Knowledge of Diamonds & Brilliants“ section:

All pieces of jewelry that you find in the ringshop can be engraved free of charge. Engravings are very popular for personal individualization.

We are very happy to deliver all items to Switzerland as well. The process is very simple: you just enter the desired delivery address in Switzerland. We will issue an invoice without VAT. The import VAT (Swiss VAT) of currently 8.1% is paid directly to the shipping provider DHL, who handles this process. The same applies to customs fees. For jewelry made of precious metals (gold, silver, platinum, etc.), there are import duties in the Swiss customs tariff. These are calculated based on weight (not on the value of the goods). The exact rates can be found in the Tares system of the Swiss Federal Customs Administration.
  • VAT example: A ring costs 300 CHF; 300 CHF x 8.1% = 24.30 CHF import VAT
  • Customs example in practice: Since rings are very light (often < 20 g), the customs costs are under 1 CHF per ring.
This means: in almost all cases, only the 8.1% Swiss VAT is relevant, not the customs duty.

10 Tips for Your Proposal

It can be helpful to look at old photos, think back to the lovely moments that you have shared and reminisce about all the happy hours you have spent together. This usually leads to wonderful ideas that will aid you in creating a personal connection – shared memories, music that you both like…

Break away from the daily grind and come up with something special! Surprises arouse emotions – plan the proposal in a way that the other person is not expecting. It is perfectly okay to ask friends for support. In conversation, ideas that you might not have thought of on your own could develop. However, never let yourself be pressured into something you don’t feel comfortable with. Remain true to yourself and your relationship. Things that could add to your special moment:
  • Personalized items, such as packaging, mugs or a cake with your names; a ring cushion with your names, or even a label with your names on a bottle of Prosecco,…
  • Fireworks – for example on New Year’s Eve – this could be a particularly romantic and emotional moment
  • A romantic dinner for two – by candlelight,…
  • A picture that you personally painted – no matter how professional the result of your “art” is
  • A lavish brunch by candlelight
  • A self-designed photo book, collecting your favorite memories
  • A large bouquet of flowers
  • A special location such as the Eiffel Tower in Paris, St. Mark’s Square in Venice,…
  • A special location such as a mountain peak, if you both enjoy hiking or mountaineering
  • A wonderful and extensive picnic
  • A balloon ride or a parachute jump – if you both do not have a fear of heights
  • At home by candlelight – perhaps you could form lots of candles into a heart and propose in the dark (Please pay attention to the necessary safety measures!)
Browse through the ringshop and find the perfect proposal ring. If the love of your life doesn’t like wearing rings, you will also find many alternatives in the store, such as necklaces, earrings or bracelets. We offer the right option to suit every taste. You can go directly to the store here.
Once you have laid out a basic plan, it’s time to find the right place for the proposal. It’s crucial to get away from everyday life! Places where you spent your first romantic hours or where you both of you have always wanted to go are particularly suitable. Possible places could be:
  • Your home
  • Your dream holiday destination
  • Nature – on a hike or a walk
  • A beautiful beach
  • At a beautiful sight
  • In a restaurant
  • At the place where you met or fell in love
Marriage proposals are exciting and even a partner for life may render you speechless. Nevertheless, when it comes to the big question, you shouldn’t hold cards with notes in your hand, but rather allow yourself to speak from the heart. It’s important to stay true to yourself and not to pretend. The preferences of your favorite person also play a major role – sometimes the decisive moment with the decisive look is enough and very few words are needed. You know the other person best and also know when a few more words are perhaps expected.

You should think carefully about whether you would prefer to propose in a private setting or to get down on one knee in front of a crowd. Not everyone likes to be in the spotlight. If your partner is one such person, they may prefer a more personal proposal.

A marriage proposal doesn’t have to be a strictly serious affair – on the contrary, it should be one of the most memorable moments of your life. Take it good-humoredly if the ring doesn’t fit right away or you forget the words and start stuttering.

Wait until you both feel you can spend the rest of your lives with the other person – in good times and in bad. At best, you will have gotten a feeling for whether your partner even wants to get married by talking about the topic of marriage. Once you have made the decision to ask the “big question”, bear in mind that an evening after a stressful day at work may not be the best time. A weekend, a public holiday, a vacation together, etc., might be better.

A marriage proposal is most beautiful when it comes as a surprise. When planning it, it’s best not to leave any traces behind. Googling in incognito mode, not getting too chatty and making friends promise not to say anything are all part of this.

Film the marriage proposal or take pictures to remember this beautiful moment. This way, you can relive the situation later on in a relaxed manner, without the nerves. And if something doesn’t quite go according to plan, there will be something to laugh about.

Ring Size
Determine The Correct Ring Size

If you do not know the exact ring width, this is no problem. Here you will find six different ways to determine the ring width. . You are welcome to contact us if you have any further questions or require assistance – we will be happy to help you. The easiest way to reach us is via the contact page: Contact.

1) Measure an existing ring

Using our template, a ruler or a caliper gauge, you can easily determine the ring width using an existing ring.

2) Measure your finger

Using a strip of paper or a tape measure, you can easily determine the right ring width directly on your finger before buying.

3) Ring sizer

Use our ring sizer to conveniently determine the exact ring size on your loved one's finger.

4) Friends, relatives

Ask friends, relatives or acquaintances whom you trust and who might know or be able to find out.

5) Estimate the ring width

If you don't have that much time or find this to be too much effort, you can also simply estimate the ring width..

6) Measure with us

You are welcome to make an appointment and we will determine the exact ring width professionally in one of our studios.

1) Determining the ring size
Measure the existing ring

a) Measure the ring with our template

Accuracy of this method
Exact determination of the ring width 85%
Easily determine the right ring width using an existing ring and our ring template. Print out this template with the following settings: A4, without margins with a scaling of 100% (do not enlarge the print size, do not reduce it, do not adjust it to the page), or open the template on the screen. After you have printed the template, check whether the template has been printed in the correct size by using a ruler to check whether the control dimension is exactly 50 mm long. When you open the template on the screen, scale the size until the control dimension has reached an exact length of 50 mm. Then place an existing ring on the circles shown until you have found a circle where no white area is visible, i.e. you only see black color. Please make sure that you are looking at the template and the ring from above and not from the side. Now read the number you see in the circle. Congratulations! You have determined the correct ring size with the help of the ring template.

b) Measure the ring with a ruler

Accuracy of this method
Moderately accurate determination of the ring width 70%
If you want to use a ruler to determine the ring width, position the ring so that you can determine its diameter. Once you know the diameter, multiply it by 3.14 and you have an indication of the appropriate ring width. In our example, the diameter is 16.5 mm. If this is multiplied by the number 3.14 (pi), the approximated ring width is 52. Please make sure that you look at the ring exactly from above when reading off the diameter.

c) Measure the ring with a vernier calliper

Accuracy of this method
Very accurate determination of the ring width 95%

You can determine the ring size by measuring the diameter of an existing ring with a caliper. Once you have measured the diameter, simply multiply the result by 3.14, and you will have the correct ring size. This is a very reliable method of determining ring size.

In our example, the engagement ring has an inner diameter of 17.19 mm. We then multiply 17.19 mm by 3.14 and obtain a ring size of 54.

If you don’t have a caliper at hand, ask friends, relatives, or acquaintances. Calipers are also available in most hardware stores.

2) Determining the ring size
Measure your fingers

a) Measure fingers with a paper strip

Accuracy of this method
Moderately accurate determination of the ring width 75%

Cut a strip of paper with scissors and place the strip around your finger. Then use a pencil to draw a line across the two adjacent strips of paper. Now all you have to do is place the strip of paper on a flat surface and measure the distance between the two lines with a ruler. You now have the ring width.

b) Measure fingers with a tape measure

Accuracy of this method
Moderately accurate determination of the ring width 75%
You can also measure the correct ring width directly on your finger using a measuring tape. To do this, place the measuring tape around your finger and read the ring width on the scale. In our example, the ring width would be 55.

3) Determining the ring size
Use a ring sizer

Accuracy of this method
Accurate determination of the ring width 80%

If it is not necessary to determine the correct ring size in secret, you can use our ring sizer to measure the correct size directly on the finger. Request it now for free:

4) Determining the ring size
Ask friends, relatives or acquaintances

Accuracy of this method
Accurate determination of the ring width 80%
It is a good option to ask friends, relatives or acquaintances for the right ring size. Oftentimes best friends, for example, know the ring size or are able to find it out without the risk of giving anything away. However, you must be able to trust this person completely to ensure that everything remains secret. If you think there is the slightest risk that the surprise will be “uncovered”, then it is better to use another option to find out the right ring size.

5) Determining the ring size
Estimate ring size

Accuracy of this method
Inaccurate determination of the ring width 60%
Stress at work and a heap of activities in your free time always keep you busy? If you don’t have much time and all other methods of determining the ring width are too time-consuming for you, you can also estimate the ring width. In any case, it is very common for purchased rings not to fit. We guarantee that rings ordered incorrectly will be exchanged once for the correct ring size free of charge. This free exchange campaign applies within 60 days of purchase. Please note that a flat rate of 59 euros will be charged for the exchange of engraved rings.

6) Ring size determination
Measure the ring width in the ring studio

Accuracy of this method
Exact determination of the ring width 99%

Measure directly in one of our ring studios. The safest way to determine the ring size is to measure it directly on the person who will be wearing the ring. In this case, however, the application cannot be kept secret and therefore this method is often not suitable. If you don’t want to make a big surprise of your gift, why not visit us in one of our studios? You can book an appointment via our contact center.

Basic Knowledge of Materials

Please note that the following information only covers which is suitable for people who have never or only to a very limited extent dealt with the subject of “genuine jewelry”. If you would like to delve deeper into the matter, we would be happy to arrange a consultation with you. You can go directly to the online booking page here

What materials are engagement rings, memoir rings and morning gifts made of? We offer jewelry in yellow gold, white gold, red gold (a shade similar to rose gold) and platinum. Of course, combinations of several colors in one ring/piece of jewelry are also possible. This is referred to as bi-color or tri-color. Not all colors go well together – for example, it does not make sense to combine white gold and palladium or platinum in one ring – we will be happy to advise you.
Precious metals are often referred to as “genuine” jewelry. Precious metals (with the exception of silver) do not combine with oxygen in their “pure” state and at normal temperatures. They are therefore particularly resistant to corrosion (resistant to rust) because they are not attacked by humidity in combination with sulphurous gases. The combination of their rarity, their stable value and their appearance makes them very special. Precious metals include: GOLD, PLATINUM, Palladium, Rhodium, Iridium, Osmium, Rhutenium and Silver. The materials GOLD and PLATINUM are predominantly used for engagement rings, memoir rings and diamond jewelry.

What are alloys and fine components? Engagement rings are predominantly made from alloys. These are created by melting the individual components together. As with wine cuvées, the recipes have been refined over the years. Pure fine gold would be too soft and would always have the same color. This is why the alloys contain varying amounts of silver, copper and palladium.

The numbers 333/-, 375/-, 585/- and 750/- indicate the proportion of fine gold. 585/- means that 585 g of fine gold is contained in 1,000 g of the material. Platinum is processed with 600/- and 950/- fine content. The very high-quality and durable 950/- platinum jewelry is made of 95 % platinum and the remaining 5 % is mainly made of tungsten.

White gold in 585/- and white gold in 750/- is always alloyed with palladium. Rhodium plating makes white gold particularly bright and radiant. As the rhodium layer wears off over time due to daily wear of the rings, rings made of white gold alloys must be refurbished after an appropriate period of time.

GOLD – a very special material… The word “gold” comes from the Indo-European “ghel” and means “shiny, yellow”. Gold has been used for ritual objects and jewelry for thousands of years, as well as being used as a means of payment in the form of gold coins since the 6th century BC. Gold was one of the first metals to be processed by humans. Gold is a shiny yellow metal and is in the 1st subgroup (group 11) of the periodic table, together with copper and silver, the copper group. The three metals are also known as coinage metals. Gold belongs to the transition metals. The designation of gold in the periodic table is Au (which stands for aurum); its appearance is metallic yellow. Gold melts at 1064 °C. It has a density of 19.32 g/cm³. The Vickers hardness (Fv98N) is 25 for fine gold (not alloyed). In the form of typical jewelry alloys, the Vickers hardness is between 100 and 160, making it a rather soft metal. This is what makes it so special. Its ductility is interesting in this context. For example, a wire with a length of 2.5 kilometers can be drawn from one gram of gold. This wire would be so fine that three of these wires would fit into a human hair. Gold is one of the most important precious metals in the production of jewelry, not least because of its rarity, its appealing color and its properties.

What are the properties of gold?

  • Gold shines and is easy to polish.
  • Depending on the alloy, gold engagement rings are also affordable for shoppers with smaller budgets.
  • The higher the fineness, the better the tarnish resistance.
  • Gold is available in different colors: white, grey, yellow, red, rosé, apricot, blush, honey,…
  • A gold ring retains its value.
  • Chemically pure gold is called fine gold.
  • It is very pliable and supple, which is why it has to be mixed with other metals in the form an alloy to make it harder.
  • Gold is a precious metal and, together with copper, is one of the few colored metals.
  • Gold is the only metal with a yellowish, radiant color.
  • Due to the fact that it can be easily polished, it is possible to achieve a highly glossy surface.
  • Gold forms chemical compounds only with difficulty.
  • Gold is almost exclusively processed in alloyed form, as the price is then lower and the strength, hardness and usage properties are improved.
  • Last but not least, the color of gold can be varied. The usual colored gold alloys consist of the metals gold, silver and copper. Adding silver makes the color brighter, adding copper makes it darker. Palladium decolors white gold so that the yellow shimmer disappears.
An ounce is an international unit for raw gold. The actual official term for it is troy ounce (oz tf). It is used throughout the world as a measure of weight for precious metals. 1 troy ounce corresponds to 31.1034768 grams
The term “carat” is not only known as a unit of weight for diamonds, but also as an indication of the purity of a gold alloy. It indicates the proportion of gold in the total mass of a metal alloy. In 1884, the Stamp Duty Act stipulated that the gold content no longer had to be stated in “carats” but in parts per thousand. Gold 750/- is still often referred to as 18 carat and gold 585/- as 14 carat.
PLATINUM – one of the preferred metals for jewelry… In Egypt, platinum was already being processed into jewelry around 3000 BC. In Europe, platinum only became known in the middle of the 18th century. At that time, the Spanish explorers did not know exactly what to do with the small silver beads, which could not be melted in a normal fire. After its discovery in the river soaps of the Rio Pinto in Colombia, it therefore took some time before it could be used. In the second half of the 19th century, with the development of the oxyhydrogen flame, platinum could be melted for the first time. The name platinum comes from “platina”, which means “silver marriage”, and is a diminutive of the Spanish word “plata”. The symbol of platinum in the periodic table is Pt. In addition to its white appearance, which differs from yellow gold, there are other significant differences to gold. Platinum has a density of 21.45 g/cm³ and is therefore notably heavier than gold. The melting point of 1774 °C is also remarkably higher than that of gold. The Vickers hardness (Fv98N) is 59, which means that platinum is harder than gold. Platinum is not as ductile as gold, which is why processing or changing the ring width is not quite as easy (but also possible, with the exception of cast rings). A wire 1 km long can be drawn from 1 gram of platinum. Platinum is not as malleable as gold, which is why processing or changing the ring width is not quite as easy (but also possible, with the exception of cast rings). A wire with a length of one kilometre can be drawn from one gram of platinum. Compared to gold, platinum is very resistant and its density and toughness make it hard-wearing. It therefore wears out less easily than gold. However, even jewelry made of platinum does not remain in ist original state enternally. The appearance of the surface changes over the years and small scratches become visible. This is completely normal and refurbishment is very easy and inexpensive. Normally less than 50 euros is sufficient. It is not typical for genuine jewelry to be refurbished constantly. Rather, refurbishment is usually done for special occasions, for example a 10-year anniversary. What makes platinum so special?
  • Due to its tarnish resistance, platinum has become the preferred metal for jewelry.
  • Platinum has a grey-white, steel-like color and takes on a high shine when polished.
  • Pure platinum is alloyed with copper, palladium, iridium or tungsten.
  • This also lowers its very high melting point and therefore makes platinum easier to work with.
  • A 2-material platinum-tungsten alloy is often used for engagement rings. In this form, the platinum is harder and appears somewhat brighter.

What are the properties of platinum?

  • Platinum is always white;
  • Platinum is much heavier than gold;
  • Platinum looks similar to white gold or silver, especially in a 950/- alloy (platinum 600/- is slightly darker);
  • Platinum has always been more expensive than gold – this has now changed, although platinum is actually even more precious than gold;
  • Platinum is the royal metal, particularly high-quality and expensive;
  • Toughness and wear resistance are very high, without the alloy becoming brittle;
  • Diamonds come into their own in the neutral gray-white setting;
  • Due to its resistance to environmental influences, the color and shine remain unchanged in everyday life;
  • Due to its high strength, platinum jewelry hardly wears out in day-to-day usage;
  • The high specific weight makes it significantly heavier than other precious metals, giving the material a firm feel;
  •

Ring width changes are possible for both gold and platinum as long as the jewelry was not made from a cast blank. In such cases, the ring width itself is often not changed, but the entire ring is exchanged for the appropriate ring width.

Please ask us how a ring width change is possible for your piece of jewelry (width change or exchange).

No, these are precious metals whose surface hardness is not comparable to steel or other materials with a very hard surface. Assume that – regardless of whether you choose gold or platinum – the first scratches will appear quickly. Platinum is generally a tough material, but the surface is somewhat harder than gold. However, just like gold, platinum will also change over the years to the extent that small scratches will become visible. This is not a bad thing: life is not “without scratches” and that is what makes life and “genuine jewelry” special.

Engagement rings made of gold or platinum have a special look and feel – they simply feel good.

By the way: It is very easy to refurbish a range made of precious materials, i.e. to restore the original surface. This is usually done by polishing. You don’t have to dig deep into your pocket for this.

If you would like to find out more about hardness (influence of alloys, surfaces, hardness testing according to Vickers or Rockwell, etc.), please make an appointment for a consultation: Appointment

Settings of Engagement Rings

Prong setting

With the prong setting, the stone is held in place by prongs that are bent over the top of the stone. These prongs are comparable to thin claws and are machined out of the frame material or soldered on. This shape allows for a lot of light to reach the stone.

ringshop

Frame setting

With the frame setting (closed setting), the stone is usually held at its largest circumference. The advantage of this simple frame is that there are no edges or openings that one could accidentally catch on.

ringshop

Swing Setting

With the swing setting, the gemstone is stretched between a curved ring band. This lively frame ensures everyday suitability with its flat construction because there are no large and impractical rises.

ringshop

Tension setting

The tension ring has a classic barrel variant in which the stone is held by the internal tension of the ring itself, without any setting. The stone - e.g. a diamond - is clamped in specially milled embeddings between both ends of the ring.

ringshop

Pavé setting

The pavé setting is a combination of an offcut setting and a center stone set in prongs. In this type of setting, which is very popular for engagement rings, the center stone is surrounded on the left and right by stones in an offcut setting.

ringshop

Channel version

With the channel setting, the stones are placed in a groove and attached directly to the precious metal. It is ideal for stones that are the same size. The channel socket is extremely suitable for everyday use as you can hardly get caught on other objects.

ringshop

Cut version

When cutting offcuts, individual stones or several stones are set in a row or in the area. The gemstones can be arranged in one row or several rows (offcut cobblestones).

ringshop

Memoir prong setting

With the Memoire prong setting, the stones are held in place by tiny prongs that are bent over the top of the stone. A very visually appealing impression is created because the stones are almost completely visible without the surrounding ring band.

ringshop

Design version

Many options are used in the factory to set stones. This is referred to as design settings, which are used in design rings. Ask us about YOUR individual design ring.

Basic Knowledge of Diamonds & Brilliants

Please note that the following information only covers basic knowledge which is suitable for people who have never or only to a very limited extent dealt with the subject of “diamonds“ or “brilliants“. If you would like to delve deeper into the matter, we would be happy to arrange a consultation with you. You can go directly to the online booking page here.

The diamond – one of mankind’s greatest temptations. Diamonds have always been shrouded in myth. But what makes a real gemstone – like a diamond – what it is? The diamond is considered one of humanity’s greatest temptations. A diamond takes millions of years to form. Diamonds are extremely hard – there barely exist any harder materials on this planet. Since time immemorial, eyes have been magically drawn to the sparkle of a diamond. The “king of all gemstones” owes its popularity to the values that are directly associated with it: Rarity, history and love. Anyone who decides to buy a diamond rightly expects a real miracle of nature. A gemstone must be rare, hard and transparent. A diamond fulfills all of these criteria in a very special way. That is why a diamond is also known as the “king” of gemstones. To form a diamond, it is necessary for certain components of the earth’s crust to bind together by being exposed to high pressure and very high temperatures over an extremely long period of time. This is followed by a phase of cooling, which results in crystallization. As you can see, special conditions are required for these special gems to form. This also explains why there is hardly anything of greater material value on earth.
Brilliants and diamonds are the same stone. The term “diamond” refers to the gemstone. The term “brilliant” is used when a diamond has a specially cut shape. It is this specially cut shape that makes the diamond shine wonderfully and that creates infinitely beautiful reflections of light.
The qualities of diamonds are differentiated as follows: 1) Clarity2) Colour3) Cut4) Carat5) Confidence. 1) Clarity: Ideally, no clouding inclusions can be seen under a magnifying glass. The clarity of a diamond is categorized as follows: flawless (if); very, very small inclusions (vvsi); very small inclusions (vsi); small inclusions (si); clear inclusions (p1); larger inclusions (p2); 2) Colour: Diamonds are divided into the following color shades: blue-white, fine white, white, slightly tinted white; 3) Cut: It is the cut that gives the diamond its mythical radiance. The ideal is the brilliant cut with 56 facets. Variants of this are, for instance, called princess, trillant, baguette, oval or navette. 4) Carat, the weight: The weight of a diamond is measured in carats (0.2 grams). A carat is divided into “points”. One point corresponds to 0.01 carat. A diamond with 25 points therefore has 0.25 carats and weighs 0.05 grams. 5) Confidence, the origin: Only diamonds that meet the criteria of the international Kimberley Agreement are processed. The latter states that no conflict diamonds, which are used to finance weapons and wars, are processed. “Confidence” guarantees that the stone used is not a so-called ‘blood diamond’.
A distinction must be made between how the stones are arranged and how they are attached. This results in very significant visual differences in the piece of jewelry. The following are the main variants for the arrangement of the stones and the settings: Bezel setting, prong setting, tension setting, cut setting and channel setting. There are also “rubbed” stones, pavé settings, starry skies and others that are less common. Please contact us if you would like to know more details about a particular model in the ringshop. We will be happy to assist you.
At the turn of the millennium, the World Diamond Council (WDC) was founded by the umbrella organizations of the diamond industry (WFDB and IDMA). This was triggered by the increasing problem of weapons for rebels being financed by diamond smuggling in African countries and the illegal diamond trade. In this context, the term “conflict diamonds” or “blood diamonds” is used. With the Kimberley Agreement, it is now possible to ensure that diamonds are “conflict-free”, i.e. that they are not “conflict diamonds” or “blood diamonds”, with the help of accompanying certificates for import and export shipments. Without exception, all diamonds on our jewelry comply with the Kimberley Process.

ringshop

Heart

The diamond, neatly cut in the shape of a heart, is particularly romantic. It very popular for jewelry and warms all hearts.

ringshop

Emerald

The emerald cut - also known as "emerald cut", "octagonal cut" or "octagonal step cut" impresses with its straight-lined basic shape.

ringshop

Princess

The princess cut is a combination of a cardinal cut on the top and fan cut on the bottom. Its square shape is popular for engagement rings and wedding rings.

ringshop

Asscher

The Asscher cut with prismatic brilliance and a rectangular base is similar to the emerald shape. With its 58 ground facets and square appearance, it is an eye-catcher.

ringshop

Drop

The drop cut is a successful combination of the classic round brilliant cut and the marquise cut. On one side, the end tapers to a point, resembling a drop.

ringshop

Oval

The beautifully shaped oval cut has 58 ground facets on the inside. The elongated, symmetrical shape makes the stone appear larger than round stones of the same weight.

ringshop

Carree

The carree cut is a square-cut diamond whose outmost layer is surrounded by parallel rows of step-shaped facets. The term carré translates to “square”.

ringshop

Cushion

The cushion cut is the stone shape for those who wish to combine design and modern cutting art. The design of this cut makes the cushion perfect for engagement rings.

Laser Engraving Basics

You are welcome to personalize all pieces of jewelry that you purchase in the ringshop with an engraving. But how is an engraving applied to the piece of jewelry?

All engagement rings, as well as all other pieces of jewelry, can be laser-signed on request. This technology opens up almost unlimited possibilities. You can choose predefined fonts or design your own signature motifs: Handwriting, characters and symbols or fingerprints – your black and white template is digitized by us and then transferred to the ring using an ultra-fine laser beam. The laser engraving can be done on the inside, outside or on the side.

No matter what you choose – a standard text engraving with a predefined font (straight or curved) or an individual engraving according to your personal ideas (fingerprint, own handwriting, etc.) – you can select and specify this directly during the ordering process.

If you have any questions about engraving options, please contact us here.

For platinum, you can choose between 600/- (60% platinum content) and 950/- (95% platinum content). The higher the percentage, the more expensive the piece of jewelry.

3) Stone size

Select the weight in carats. For example, 0.05 ct. corresponds to a diamond weight of 0.01 grams. A piece of jewelry with a stone of 1 ct. corresponds to a diamond weight of 0.2 grams. The higher the weight, the more expensive the piece of jewelry.

4) Stone quality

Choose between H/si (small inclusions) and G/if (flawless). H/si is the cheaper option and G/if is the more expensive option. The price difference can be significant, especially for large diamonds. In the ringshop you can also obtain laboratory brilliants (LAB) as a cheaper variant.

Jewelry is mostly made from alloys – blends of several metals fused together. Like wine blends (cuvées), these formulas have been refined over centuries. Pure gold would be too soft and always have the same color. That’s why different proportions of silver, copper, and palladium are added, which also increases durability.

For gold, the numbers 333/-, 375/-, 585/-, and 750/- indicate the percentage of pure gold. For example, 585/- means 585 g of pure gold in 1,000 g of alloy (14 karat). 750/- corresponds to 18 karat.

Platinum is used in 600/- and 950/- alloys. Jewelry made from 950/- platinum contains 95% pure platinum and is especially high-quality and durable. The remaining 5% typically consists of tungsten.

Palladium is used in 500/- and 950/- alloys.

Diamond Quality

In the ringshop, you’ll primarily find the following diamond qualities, classified according to international standards:

H/si

White (Wesselton) – small inclusions (visible under 10x magnification)

G/if

Fine White (Top Wesselton) – internally flawless (no internal features)

G/vs LG

Fine White (Top Wesselton) – very small inclusions (barely visible under 10x magnification) – LG Lab Grown – lab-grown diamonds

G/vvs

Fine White (Top Wesselton) – very, very small inclusions (extremely hard to detect under 10x magnification)

H/vs LG

White (Wesselton) – very small inclusions – LG Lab Grown – lab-grown diamonds

N/p1

Tinted – piqué 1 – small inclusions just visible to the naked eye

H/p1

White (Wesselton) – piqué 1 – small inclusions just visible to the naked eye

Want to Learn More?

Diamond quality is based on five factors: Clarity, Colour, Cut, Carat, Confidence;

1) Clarity – The fewer inclusions, the higher the clarity grade:

Internally flawless (IF)

Very very small inclusions (VVS1, VVS2)

Very small inclusions (VS1, VS2)

Small inclusions (SI1, SI2)

Noticeable inclusions (P1)

Larger inclusions (P2)

2) Colour – Diamond shades include: blue-white, fine white, white, faintly tinted white

3) Cut – The cut gives the diamond its brilliance. The ideal is the brilliant cut (56 facets), with variants such as Princess, Trilliant, Baguette, Oval, and Marquise.

4) Carat – Diamonds are weighed in carats (1 carat = 0.2 g). One carat is divided into 100 points. A 25-point diamond equals 0.25 carat or 0.05 g.

5) Confidence – Only diamonds that comply with the international Kimberley Process are used. These are conflict-free diamonds, not used to fund wars. “Confidence” guarantees the stone is not a “blood diamond.”

Alloy

In the “Alloy” section, select your preferred material. There are four main alloys to choose from: Gold, Platinum, Palladium, and Silver. Once you have selected an alloy, only the fineness levels compatible with that alloy will be available in the “Fineness” section.
Yellow Gold: The “classic”, elegant, and timeless gold color with fineness levels of 333/-, 375/-, 585/-, and 750/- is a yellow gold alloy that closely resembles pure gold and is primarily alloyed with silver and copper. Jewelry with a fineness of 585/- (14 karat) or 750/- (18 karat) is referred to as “fine jewelry”.
White Gold: At 585/-, white gold consists of 58.5% pure gold and is alloyed with silver, copper, and palladium. It is also commonly available in fineness levels of 333/-, 375/-, and 750/-. Rhodium plating on the surface gives white gold its especially bright and radiant appearance.
Rose Gold: This modern gold alloy, available in 585/- and 750/-, captivates with its rosy shimmer. Its distinctive, lighter tone compared to red gold is achieved through a lower copper content and the inclusion of palladium alongside silver.
Red Gold: This alloy consists of fine gold, copper, and silver, with gold content ranging from 333/- to 750/-. The slightly higher copper content gives red gold its characteristic color and hardness. The elegant and timeless hue resembles that of copper.
Platinum: This alloy has been one of the most favored metals for fine jewelry for over 5,000 years. It is slightly more durable than gold. With a fineness of 950/-, platinum is similarly bright and radiant as white gold. A fineness of 600/- results in a somewhat darker appearance.
Silver: Silver alloys have been popular for centuries in jewelry making. Silver impresses with its bright and radiant appearance and is especially sought-after for engagement rings due to its affordability.
Blush Gold: This modern gold alloy, available in 585/- and 750/-, is flattering for all genders. Almost all rings and other pieces of jewelry are also available in this alloy. If the alloy is not selectable, please contact us.
Palladium: A metal related to platinum, palladium has a particularly bright and radiant surface at a fineness of 950/-. At 500/-, it appears significantly darker, similar to grey gold.
Honey Gold: Also known as “rich yellow”, this precious metal has a more intense yellow tone compared to traditional yellow gold. It is available with a fineness of 750/-, or 18 karat.
Grey Gold: At 750/-, grey gold consists of 75% pure gold. It is also available in 585/-, meaning 58.5% gold content. For an even darker look, grey gold can be ruthenium-plated.
Ruthenium-Plated Grey Gold: Ruthenium-plated grey gold has a significantly darker appearance than unplated grey gold. Over time, the ruthenium coating will wear off, gradually lightening the color.
Sun Gold: This particularly high-quality alloy is composed of 90% pure gold, resulting in a very “intense” gold tone. In addition to 90% gold, the soft Sun Gold alloy includes 6% fine silver and 4% copper.
Tantalum: This metal belongs to the group of “rare earths”. It is primarily used in jewelry as pure tantalum (999/-) or as an alloy with 10% tungsten (900/-). Its color is similar to ruthenium-plated grey gold, with the advantage that it is not coated and thus retains its color over time.
Sunrise Gold: This modern color is achieved through a special mix of gold, fine silver, copper, and zinc. Sunrise Gold is available at a fineness of 585/-, or 14 karat.
Platinum Snow: As the name suggests, Platinum Snow is an exceptionally bright and high-quality platinum alloy. It consists of 95% pure platinum and contains no copper or tungsten, unlike conventional platinum.
Carbon: For a truly dark look, carbon is the material of choice. It is not an alloy, but rather a special type of surface refinement, in which carbon fibers are applied using resin, pressure, and heat treatment. The result is an extremely durable surface.
