Finding the Right Ring Size
How to Discover Your Perfect Fit

Choosing the right ring size is essential to ensure that engagement rings, wedding bands and eternity rings not only look beautiful, but also feel comfortable in everyday life. A ring that is too tight will pinch – a ring that is too loose can slip off and get lost. On this page, we show you step by step how to determine your ring size reliably – using simple tools at home, with our printable ring size guide, our free ring sizer or directly in one of our ring studios.

Ring Size
Determine The Correct Ring Size

If you do not know the exact ring width, this is no problem. Here you will find six different ways to determine the ring width. . You are welcome to contact us if you have any further questions or require assistance – we will be happy to help you. The easiest way to reach us is via the contact page: Contact.

1) Measure an existing ring

Using our template, a ruler or a caliper gauge, you can easily determine the ring width using an existing ring.

2) Measure your finger

Using a strip of paper or a tape measure, you can easily determine the right ring width directly on your finger before buying.

3) Ring sizer

Use our ring sizer to conveniently determine the exact ring size on your loved one's finger.

4) Friends, relatives

Ask friends, relatives or acquaintances whom you trust and who might know or be able to find out.

5) Estimate the ring width

If you don't have that much time or find this to be too much effort, you can also simply estimate the ring width..

6) Measure with us

You are welcome to make an appointment and we will determine the exact ring width professionally in one of our studios.

1) Determining the ring size
Measure the existing ring

a) Measure the ring with our template

Accuracy of this method
Exact determination of the ring width 85%
Easily determine the right ring width using an existing ring and our ring template. Print out this template with the following settings: A4, without margins with a scaling of 100% (do not enlarge the print size, do not reduce it, do not adjust it to the page), or open the template on the screen. After you have printed the template, check whether the template has been printed in the correct size by using a ruler to check whether the control dimension is exactly 50 mm long. When you open the template on the screen, scale the size until the control dimension has reached an exact length of 50 mm. Then place an existing ring on the circles shown until you have found a circle where no white area is visible, i.e. you only see black color. Please make sure that you are looking at the template and the ring from above and not from the side. Now read the number you see in the circle. Congratulations! You have determined the correct ring size with the help of the ring template.

b) Measure the ring with a ruler

Accuracy of this method
Moderately accurate determination of the ring width 70%
If you want to use a ruler to determine the ring width, position the ring so that you can determine its diameter. Once you know the diameter, multiply it by 3.14 and you have an indication of the appropriate ring width. In our example, the diameter is 16.5 mm. If this is multiplied by the number 3.14 (pi), the approximated ring width is 52. Please make sure that you look at the ring exactly from above when reading off the diameter.

c) Measure the ring with a vernier calliper

Accuracy of this method
Very accurate determination of the ring width 95%

You can determine the ring size by measuring the diameter of an existing ring with a caliper. Once you have measured the diameter, simply multiply the result by 3.14, and you will have the correct ring size. This is a very reliable method of determining ring size.

In our example, the engagement ring has an inner diameter of 17.19 mm. We then multiply 17.19 mm by 3.14 and obtain a ring size of 54.

If you don’t have a caliper at hand, ask friends, relatives, or acquaintances. Calipers are also available in most hardware stores.

2) Determining the ring size
Measure your fingers

a) Measure fingers with a paper strip

Accuracy of this method
Moderately accurate determination of the ring width 75%

Cut a strip of paper with scissors and place the strip around your finger. Then use a pencil to draw a line across the two adjacent strips of paper. Now all you have to do is place the strip of paper on a flat surface and measure the distance between the two lines with a ruler. You now have the ring width.

b) Measure fingers with a tape measure

Accuracy of this method
Moderately accurate determination of the ring width 75%
You can also measure the correct ring width directly on your finger using a measuring tape. To do this, place the measuring tape around your finger and read the ring width on the scale. In our example, the ring width would be 55.

3) Determining the ring size
Use a ring sizer

Accuracy of this method
Accurate determination of the ring width 80%

If it is not necessary to determine the correct ring size in secret, you can use our ring sizer to measure the correct size directly on the finger. Request it now for free:

4) Determining the ring size
Ask friends, relatives or acquaintances

Accuracy of this method
Accurate determination of the ring width 80%
It is a good option to ask friends, relatives or acquaintances for the right ring size. Oftentimes best friends, for example, know the ring size or are able to find it out without the risk of giving anything away. However, you must be able to trust this person completely to ensure that everything remains secret. If you think there is the slightest risk that the surprise will be “uncovered”, then it is better to use another option to find out the right ring size.

5) Determining the ring size
Estimate ring size

Accuracy of this method
Inaccurate determination of the ring width 60%
Stress at work and a heap of activities in your free time always keep you busy? If you don’t have much time and all other methods of determining the ring width are too time-consuming for you, you can also estimate the ring width. In any case, it is very common for purchased rings not to fit. We guarantee that rings ordered incorrectly will be exchanged once for the correct ring size free of charge. This free exchange campaign applies within 60 days of purchase. Please note that a flat rate of 59 euros will be charged for the exchange of engraved rings.

6) Ring size determination
Measure the ring width in the ring studio

Accuracy of this method
Exact determination of the ring width 99%

Measure directly in one of our ring studios. The safest way to determine the ring size is to measure it directly on the person who will be wearing the ring. In this case, however, the application cannot be kept secret and therefore this method is often not suitable. If you don’t want to make a big surprise of your gift, why not visit us in one of our studios? You can book an appointment via our contact center.

Jewelry is mostly made from alloys – blends of several metals fused together. Like wine blends (cuvées), these formulas have been refined over centuries. Pure gold would be too soft and always have the same color. That’s why different proportions of silver, copper, and palladium are added, which also increases durability.

For gold, the numbers 333/-, 375/-, 585/-, and 750/- indicate the percentage of pure gold. For example, 585/- means 585 g of pure gold in 1,000 g of alloy (14 karat). 750/- corresponds to 18 karat.

Platinum is used in 600/- and 950/- alloys. Jewelry made from 950/- platinum contains 95% pure platinum and is especially high-quality and durable. The remaining 5% typically consists of tungsten.

Palladium is used in 500/- and 950/- alloys.

Diamond Quality

In the ringshop, you’ll primarily find the following diamond qualities, classified according to international standards:

H/si

White (Wesselton) – small inclusions (visible under 10x magnification)

G/if

Fine White (Top Wesselton) – internally flawless (no internal features)

G/vs LG

Fine White (Top Wesselton) – very small inclusions (barely visible under 10x magnification) – LG Lab Grown – lab-grown diamonds

Want to Learn More?

Diamond quality is based on five factors: Clarity, Colour, Cut, Carat, Confidence;

1) Clarity – The fewer inclusions, the higher the clarity grade:

Internally flawless (IF)

Very very small inclusions (VVS1, VVS2)

Very small inclusions (VS1, VS2)

Small inclusions (SI1, SI2)

Noticeable inclusions (P1)

Larger inclusions (P2)

2) Colour – Diamond shades include: blue-white, fine white, white, faintly tinted white

3) Cut – The cut gives the diamond its brilliance. The ideal is the brilliant cut (56 facets), with variants such as Princess, Trilliant, Baguette, Oval, and Marquise.

4) Carat – Diamonds are weighed in carats (1 carat = 0.2 g). One carat is divided into 100 points. A 25-point diamond equals 0.25 carat or 0.05 g.

5) Confidence – Only diamonds that comply with the international Kimberley Process are used. These are conflict-free diamonds, not used to fund wars. “Confidence” guarantees the stone is not a “blood diamond.”

Alloy

In the “Alloy” section, select your preferred material. There are four main alloys to choose from: Gold, Platinum, Palladium, and Silver. Once you have selected an alloy, only the fineness levels compatible with that alloy will be available in the “Fineness” section.
Yellow Gold: The “classic”, elegant, and timeless gold color with fineness levels of 333/-, 375/-, 585/-, and 750/- is a yellow gold alloy that closely resembles pure gold and is primarily alloyed with silver and copper. Jewelry with a fineness of 585/- (14 karat) or 750/- (18 karat) is referred to as “fine jewelry”.
White Gold: At 585/-, white gold consists of 58.5% pure gold and is alloyed with silver, copper, and palladium. It is also commonly available in fineness levels of 333/-, 375/-, and 750/-. Rhodium plating on the surface gives white gold its especially bright and radiant appearance.
Rose Gold: This modern gold alloy, available in 585/- and 750/-, captivates with its rosy shimmer. Its distinctive, lighter tone compared to red gold is achieved through a lower copper content and the inclusion of palladium alongside silver.
Red Gold: This alloy consists of fine gold, copper, and silver, with gold content ranging from 333/- to 750/-. The slightly higher copper content gives red gold its characteristic color and hardness. The elegant and timeless hue resembles that of copper.
Platinum: This alloy has been one of the most favored metals for fine jewelry for over 5,000 years. It is slightly more durable than gold. With a fineness of 950/-, platinum is similarly bright and radiant as white gold. A fineness of 600/- results in a somewhat darker appearance.
Silver: Silver alloys have been popular for centuries in jewelry making. Silver impresses with its bright and radiant appearance and is especially sought-after for engagement rings due to its affordability.
Blush Gold: This modern gold alloy, available in 585/- and 750/-, is flattering for all genders. Almost all rings and other pieces of jewelry are also available in this alloy. If the alloy is not selectable, please contact us.
Palladium: A metal related to platinum, palladium has a particularly bright and radiant surface at a fineness of 950/-. At 500/-, it appears significantly darker, similar to grey gold.
Honey Gold: Also known as “rich yellow”, this precious metal has a more intense yellow tone compared to traditional yellow gold. It is available with a fineness of 750/-, or 18 karat.
Grey Gold: At 750/-, grey gold consists of 75% pure gold. It is also available in 585/-, meaning 58.5% gold content. For an even darker look, grey gold can be ruthenium-plated.
Ruthenium-Plated Grey Gold: Ruthenium-plated grey gold has a significantly darker appearance than unplated grey gold. Over time, the ruthenium coating will wear off, gradually lightening the color.
Sun Gold: This particularly high-quality alloy is composed of 90% pure gold, resulting in a very “intense” gold tone. In addition to 90% gold, the soft Sun Gold alloy includes 6% fine silver and 4% copper.
Tantalum: This metal belongs to the group of “rare earths”. It is primarily used in jewelry as pure tantalum (999/-) or as an alloy with 10% tungsten (900/-). Its color is similar to ruthenium-plated grey gold, with the advantage that it is not coated and thus retains its color over time.
Sunrise Gold: This modern color is achieved through a special mix of gold, fine silver, copper, and zinc. Sunrise Gold is available at a fineness of 585/-, or 14 karat.
Platinum Snow: As the name suggests, Platinum Snow is an exceptionally bright and high-quality platinum alloy. It consists of 95% pure platinum and contains no copper or tungsten, unlike conventional platinum.
Carbon: For a truly dark look, carbon is the material of choice. It is not an alloy, but rather a special type of surface refinement, in which carbon fibers are applied using resin, pressure, and heat treatment. The result is an extremely durable surface.
